Abstract EN

In this article, we sought to uncover the global intersections of the history of the Tunisian province at the beginning of the 1870s.

We discussed a basic hypothesis, which is that the decline of the influence of Mustafa Khaznadar and his men in the Tunisian administration was linked to international contexts, the most important of which were the defeat of France by Germany and the fall of Napoleon III.

We relied on rich documents, namely newspapers published in Tunisia and the East during the 19th century.

It became clear to us that the history of the Tunisian country during the second half of the 19th century was linked to global contexts such as the German/French war, the American Civil War, the fall of Napoleon III’s state, and the digging of the Suez Canal.

From this we conclude that global history and comparative history enable us to have a more reasonable and solid reading of local history.
