This significance is evident in historical, geographical, jurisprudential, and Hisbah heritage works, which are replete with valuable information and texts on this aquatic technique, as well as the economic and social relationships woven around it and linked to it through rental and sale: purchases, the sharing of shares and grain between associates, conflicts resulting from exploitation and the resulting damage to watercourses, and the resulting industries and crafts.

They, like Qanwiyyin, Nawariyah, and Rahawiyya, were therefore key amenities in the Moroccan city's urban structure, just like the mosque, hammam, and market.
