The effect of stage of umbel picking and fertilizers on oil and Anithol contents of Sudanese and Syrian strains of pimpinella anisum L.

known as "yansoon" or "anise" was compared.

An experiment was conducted for two consecutive seasons under the semiarid condition of Shambat, Sudan, to investigate the best stage of umbel collection in the two straine, from plants grown under two fertilizer treatments (Chicken manure and NPK).

The treatments consisted of three umbel stages, namely : premature, mature green and over mature.

Oil content of seeds was signicantly affected by stage of maturity.

The mature green stage proved to be the best stage for picking in the two strains.

The effect of fertilizer on the oil content of Syrian strains was significant while that on the oil content of Sudanese strains was not significantly affected.

On the other hand the Anithol content wasnot significantly affected by stage of umbel picking andfertikizers in the two strains.
