تظهر حالات الحنك المشقوق بنسبة واحد في كل سبعمائة أو واحد في كل ألفين مولود في مختلف المجتمعات العالم.
و عند هولاء المرضى تكثر حالات أمراض الأذن الوسطى و نقص السمع التوصيلي و السبب الرئيسي في ذلك يرجع إلى اضطراب عمل قناة استاكيوس.
من أهداف هذه الدراسة هو تحديد المظاهر المرضية المختلفة في الأذن الوسطى عند هؤلاء المرضى الذين يعانون من الحنك المشقوق و تقييم درجة حدة هذه الدراسة على ثلاثين (10 ذكور و 20 إناث) مريض يعانون من الحنك المشقوق خلال الفترة من يناير 2002 م حتى ديسمبر 2005 م في مستشفى ابن سينا التعليمي المركزي في مدينة المكلا و كانت النتائج كالتالي : 1.
60 % من هؤلاء المرضى يعانون من نقص السمع الوصيلي.
2.
أكثر المجموعة العمرية المتأثرة هي من 2-5 سنة.
3.
56,33 % من هؤلاء المرضى مصابة بالتهاب الأذن الوسطى المسترسل.
4.
3,33 % من هولا المرضى تعاني من اضطراب في قناة استاكيوس.
نوصي التالي : يجب فحص الأذن الوسطى عند هولاء المرضى بدقة و بمتابعة مستمرة لتجنب المضاعفات السمعية الخطيرة.
Abstract EN
Cleft palate (with or without cleft lip) occurs in about 1:750-1:2000 births in different societies in the world.
Cleft palate individuals have a greater incidence of hearing loss than the general population.
The primary cause of the ear problem in cleft palate patients is Eustachian tube dysfunction.
The cause for which is abnormal insertion of levator veli palatini and tensor veli palatini muscles into the posterior margin of the hard palate and the palatal aponeurosis and associated muscular hypoplasia This study is clinical study which carriod out in Ibn Sina central teaching hospital in Mukalla city of Yemen during the period between Januar2002 and December2005.

The aim of this study is to: 1:Determine the various otological Manifestations that occur in patients with cleft palate and confirm the existence of these manifestations with the investigations available.2.Evaluate the severity of the manifestations with relation to the various types of clefts.
3: Obtain a statistical data for the same as found in the local population.
Methods: thirty patients with Cleft palate where undertaken thorough clinical examination and special investigations for hearing assessment Conclusion: 1- 56.66% of patients with cleft palate have middle ear effusion and infection leading to sclerotic changes in their mastoid air cell system.
2- 3.33% of patients have eustachian tube dysfunction.
3- 60% of patients have hearing loss.
