2 - Arylidene - 1 - indanones land}- arylidene - 1- benzosuberones II were condensed with phenylacetamide in presence of base to yield the corresponding pyridin - 2 - ones III and IV respectively .
The structure of all products was substantiated by chemical and spectral methods
