Abstract EN

This paper deals with ups and downs in Indo-US relations during the Cold War period (1947-90) and post Cold War period (1990-2000).

Pursuit of divergent national interests by both countries during the Cold War period envisaged a prolonged cool off stage in their bilateral relation.

It also takes into account US tilt towards Pakistan and American apprehensions about Indo-Soviet relations.

The research paper also dwells on the post-Cold War scenario, which propelled both countries to redefine their relations from "Confrontation to accommodation".

Warming up of relations in the realms of economic and strategic partnership has been essayed.

The divergence in approaches to the question of nuclear non-proliferation has also been appraised.
