Abstract EN

This study deals with one of the literary letters written by Abu Othamn Al-Jahidh (d 22SH/AD 869) lampooning one of his contemporaries.

We came across this Jahidhian text in a book entitled.

An Anthology of Speeches by Abu Othman Al-Jahidh, whose manuscript is in Berlin under number 5032, and we introduce the text with a thorough academic study which includes editing, subject matter and stylistics.

The letter, although brief, seems significant several reasons: it shows a new trend in the development of Arabic prose which competed with poetry and shared with it its most prominent characteristic.

Furthermore, the letter has different valuable stylistic phenomenon.

Finally, this letter could be the last of Al-Jihidh's literary output.
