Abstract EN

In a three-year study.

Eleven thousand one hundred and seventeen healthy blood donors in Amman were screened by ELISA for hepatitis B surface antigen (HbsAg) and anti hepatitis C virus (anti HCV).

The results showed that the prevalence of HbsAg was (2.25± 0.135%) and that of anti HCV was (0.74 + 0.14%).

HbsAg prevalence increased with age and showed a peak of 5.16% in the (41.50 years) group Anti HCV showed prevalence increase with age with a peak of 1.51% in an earlier age group (31-40 years).

The results of this study indicated that the prevalence of HbsAg was significantly higher (p<.01) than that of anti HCV among Jordanian blood donors with different prevalence rate among different age groups.
