Abstract EN

A new approach to deal with the short-term generation scheduling for hydrothermal systems is proposed.

This paper presents an effective algorithm, which decomposes the short-term hydrothermal problems into hydro and thermal sub problems.

The hydro sub problem is solved using discharge proportional to demand method (DPDM) and local variation approach.

Thermal sub problem is solved using lambda iteration technique including line losses.

Genetic algorithm (GA) based optimal power flow (OPF) is implemented to control the line flows.

A 9-bus system with 4 thermal plants and 3 hydro plants and a 66-bus system with 12 thermal plants and 11 hydro plants are taken for investigation.

The results obtained by DPDM are compared with average inflow method (AIFM).

The investigations reveal that the proposed algorithm is relatively simple, reliable and efficient.
