Abstract EN

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of scanning small spot excimer laser in correction of moderate myopia.

Design Prospective clinical trial (unmasked study) Participant 37 eyes of 20 patients were entered in the study.

Intervention Patients underwent Photorefractive Keratectomy (I'KIs) or (Photorefractive Astigmatism Keratectomy (PARK) with l.aserscan 2000 (l.asersight Technologies, Inc.

U.S\A).,Spheriral equivalent ranged from -2.50 to -6.00 diopter (I)> and the amount uf astigmatism was 0 to less than 1.5 diopter, follow-up was be¬tween three months to one year (mean

Results Uncorrected visual acuily of 2(1/4(1 or better was obtained in 32 of 37 eyes (

In PRK group (16 eyes) astigmatism equal to or less than 0.75 D appeared in 5 eyes and only one eye developed one diopter of astigmatism.

Eleven eyes had astigmatism more than (1,5 O in contrast to i'i preoperative!}', (,'orntal haziness occurred with +1 severity in Tour eyes and <2 in two eyes, in eyes with grade 2 opacity, epithelium was removed with 64 heaver blade.

Patients satisfaction was excellent except in one case of eccentric ablation and two cases with tinder correction who underwent repeat PRK.

All three cases were satisfied after repeal PRK.

( ondusum Scanning small spot Excimer laser seems to he a good procedure for correction of low to moderate myopia.

Long term follow-up is needed in order to prove its safety and efficacy further
