Peace and justice : the pre-requisite for development in the Sudan

Development, Peace, and Justice in the context of a geo-political state are faces for one and the same thing /A balanced development can consolidate and promote peace and justice.

On the other hand, peace and justice is a necessary condition that encourages and enhances the process of development.

The post-independence period in the Sudan has been characterized by partial development and the absence of peace and stability in most parts of the country.

This paper attempts to emphasize the importance of peace and justice as the basic fundamental for development.

In view of this, the study highlights the colonial legacy and the wrong national policies and strategies as the main attributes of instability in the Sudan.

The signing of the comprehensive peace agreement on the 9th of January 2005 in Naivasha, Kenya, is an acknowledgement of the multi-cultural, religious and ethnic diversity in addition to the different social economic systems in the country.

The study concludes that peace, justice, and development will depend on the implementation of the comprehensive peace agreement in totality as a package.

This will pave the way for the gradual unfolding of a stable new Sudan.
