Abstract EN

Although halitosis is a common complaint.

we are tumble- !o measure this symptom s-0, little research done on this unpleasant symptom A prospective controlled study was performed from June till December 1994 on 13 patients (7/tiales and 6 females) who have suffered halitosis with normal! EN1\ and dental ex¬ amination and compared them with 15 random healthy people with the same, age and sex.

Upper 01 endo- scopy has been performed on all of these patients and normal volunteers and if no pathologic findings were recognized, two biopsies from antrum were taken and evaluated by CLQ test immediately.

Out of 13 pa-¬ tients, all had positive CLO test and all except two were treated with De-Nol {Bismuth suhcitrase).

Amox¬ icillin and Metronidazol After -t to 6 weeks endoscopy and multiple biopsies were repeated and revealed negative findings for Helicobacter pylori (H.

pylori).

Halitosis wm no longer detected up to 6 months.

The ,'n-iv resistant patients were treated with Clarithromycin (instead of Amoxicillin) and 11, pylori was eradi¬ cated and these patients were halitosis free- up to 6 months.

Out of 15 normal people, only 4 were infected with M.

pylon.

With Fisher - Exact test analysis, there were significant differences between two groups

We conclude that there is a strong relationship between Helicobacter pylori and halitosis mid if the physician can not find a pathology during physical examination of a patients with halitosis.

If pylori should be considered
