Abstract EN

A total of 50 ostrich chicks (struthio camelus camelus) brought from El-Dinder National Park were examined for diseases and parasites after their arrival at a private Wild life farm in Khartoum State.

Through clinical investigations were conducted.

The Ostriches were found to be suffering badly from shipment- stress and tick-infestation.

Three types of ticks: {Rhipicephalus evertsi, R.

sanguninous and Amblyomma lepidum have been isolated and identified.

The birds were treated from the tick infestation by dipping in 1:1000 Undine solution.

The loss of the birds from transportation and shipment stress was found to be 8% regardless of these stresses and the tick infestation, the, birds survived well by adapting themselves in the new indoor farming system, this will encourage such farming both for food production and for rescuing the birds from extinction especially in some parts such as the Blue Nile and the El-Dinder areas.
