Abstract EN

A model of the competencies required from employees at learning resource centres in the context of Bahrain from the viewpoint of some educational technology experts in the Arab world Learning resource centres are bodies that help present information and skills to learners in a realistic and concrete way.

This study aims at raising the efficiency of these centres by presenting a model of the necessary competencies required from the employees to qualify them to perform their tasks in teaching and training appropriately and effectively.

The aim is also to provide a wide range of varied instructional techniques in order to cater for individual differences among learners.

This is possible now because of the huge growth in information and knowledge in all fields.

The model presented is based on the experience of Bahrain in this field.

In particular, the model was motivated by a survey conducted by a team from the Educational Technology Centre, Ministry of Education.

This survey points to clear shortcoming in the qualifications of the employees at learning resource centres in Bahrain.

The researcher, being a strong believer in the role of the learning resource centres and the solid Bahraini experience in this field, conducted a new survey ten years after the previous one, and compared the results with an eye to extracting a package of necessary competencies.

The present survey was conducted using a questionnaire which includes what the researcher thought was the necessary competencies.

The questionnaire was given to a group of Arab educational technology experts.

Based on the experts' opinions, some essential and basic competencies were extracted.

These competencies provide a package that will help make the work of the employees at the learning centres more effective and appropriate.

It is suggested that this package to be used by decision makers to evaluate the existing learning centres and to establish new centres on solid bases.
