Abstract EN
To clarify the final molasses of sugar cane for fermentation industry, three clarification methods were conducted on laboratory scale and they were by: (1) Molasses pre-heating (2) Molasses treatment with concentrated H2SO4 (3) Combined treatment with pre-heating and concentrated H2SO4.
However, the best results were obtained by method (3).
By which 67% of the total settable impurities of molasses including 65% of molasses hardness and molasses mud, were eliminated.
The reaction conditions of method (3) were that, temperature between 80°C to 90 °C , pH between 4.5 to 4 and sedimentation time between 2.5 to 3 hours.
To separate the formed residue.
By applying method (3) a clarification unit can be attached to a fermentation factory to treat the molasses entering the process.
