يساهم هذا البحث في الجدل الحاد الموجود حاليا بين علماء الاقتصاد بشأن ما إذا كان تخفيض سعر الصرف الحقيقي يمكنه دفع النمو أم لا.
و يركز هذا البحث على محاولة حل مشاكل الاقتصاد القياسي و القضايا التجريبية التي تلقي بالشك حول صحة مثل هذا الأثر الإيجابي.
كما يسمح أيضا هذا البحث للإمكانيات التي تؤثر على تخفيض النمو الذي يعمل مع التأخير أو المعولات على الاستمرار أو مستوى التخفيض.
و لم نجد أي سند مقنع للإدعاء بأن سعر الصرف الحقيقي للتوازن المخفض يشجع النمو الاقتصادي.
و نوضح بأن التباين بين نتائجنا و الأمثلة الموثقة للتبني الناجح لاستراتيجية التخفيض التي وردت في الأبحاث السابقة قد أظهر أن عملية التخفيض غير كافية بمفردها لدفع النمو.
و قد يكون السبب وراء النجاح المدعي هو التبني الفوري للسياسات المصاحبة.
Abstract EN
The objective of this paper is twofold.
Firstly, we show how reliable datasets can be generated to perform distributional analysis in the Arab region, based on a useful procedure of desegregating grouped data published by official statistical agencies.
Secondly, using accessible raw micro data and synthetic datasets, we rely on the existing conventional set of inequality indices to assess the degree of disparity and its evolution over time in the Arab region.
The paper fills in an important gap of knowledge on data access and the level and patterns of inequality in the Arab region.
