Abstract EN

"Awqaf" (plural of waqf meaning endowment or trust, usually charitable) has been known in civilized human societies since antiquity.

Islam approved this sublime tradition and gave it an enduring religious motive.

As a result, awqaf flourished in all Muslim communities throughout history and provided important social services especially in the form of mosques, schools, hospitals, potable water sources, and support for the poor.

Some awqaf were even dedicated to the welfare of animals
