Microwave irradiation of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) under vacuum and a stream of nitrogen gas produced catalytic quantities of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) that was confirmed by passing it into acidified potassium iodide (KI) aqueous solution with starch indicator.
