Oviposition behaviour of chrysoperla carnea stephens (neuroptera, chrysopidae)‎ female

Chrysoperla carnea Stephens preferred to oviposit on a black ovipositional substrate to a brown, green or white substrate when given the choice between the four colour substrates.

It also laid more eggs on a cheese cotton fabric surface than on a nylon fabric surface when given the choice between the two surface materials.

When using cheese cotton fabric as a substrate for oviposition, 70% of eggs laid can be concentrated on the oviposition surface at the top of the cage.

Nylon fabric as an ovipositional surface greatly reduces the laying capacity of the females.
