A generalization of the hypergeometric distribution

Abstract EN

In this paper we introduce a modification of the hyper geometric distribution that caters for the case when the sampling scheme favors the inclusion of units of one of the two types involved, as opposed to the hyper geometric distribution under which all samples are equally likely.

The properties of the resulting distribution, termed the generalized hyper geometric, are studied, including the derivation and numerical assessment of a normal approximation of the distribution.
