Abstract EN

This study looks at the rules which apply to a man wishing to get married, versus that of a woman, and what the man is permitted to see of the woman before marriage according to Islamic fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence).

It discusses and presents evidence on the views of the fuqaha' (Islamic legal scholars) with respect to this issue and concludes that Islamic jurisprudence allows the man to look at the woman before marriage and that the same applies to the woman.

However, the man is only allowed to see a woman's face and hands and it is forbidden for the woman to show him anything else since this is all he needs to see for marriage.
