Abstract EN
The present paper is some kind of field work based on actual translations done by final year (level 4) students of English of the Faculty of Arts, Taiz University.
Students were given eighteen passages in Arabic from different areas and were asked to translate them into English.
The task was spread over a period of nine weeks.
The study may be said to be in two parts: Firstly, errors in translation were identified, collected and classified.
This had a two-fold purpose –to recognize the kinds of errors made by students and also to establish the nature of frequency of errors.
Secondly, it was also the endeavour to suggest ways and means for minimizing the occurrence of such errors.
Finally, recommendations have been made.
If these recommendations are implemented it is hoped better result would follow.
It may be mentioned in passing that basically the study is not theoretical in nature but the analysis suggests insightful theoretical observations.
