Management of benign schwannoma of the nose

Neuroplasms of the Schwann cells origin occur only rarely in the nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses and nasopharynx.

Schwannomas have also been termed as neuromas, neurinomas, neurofibroma, perineural fibroblastomas and perineural fibroma.

Common symptoms include nasal obstruction, anosmia, epitasis, rhinorrhoea, headache facial pain, serous otitis media, and visual disturbance.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Computerized Tomographic (CT) Scanning are invaluable diagnostic tools to demonstrate and assess tumours of the nose and nasopharynx.

We present the first reported case in Saudi Arabia of benign Schwannoma of the sino-nasal complex.

Which was excised by endoscopic sinus surgery.

Follow up for the past 2 years showed no recurrence in the nose and paranasal sinuses.
