هذه دراسة ميدانية (عرضية) تهدف إلى دراسة بعض الخصائص الديمغرافية و الصحية و الاجتماعية للمسنين الذين يراجعون المراكز الصحية في البحرين، حيث تم اختيار أربعة مراكز صحية بصورة عشوائية من الإثنين و عشرين مركزا صحيا لإجراء الدراسة.
قام فريق الدراسة بمقابلة جميع المسنين المراجعين لهذه المراكز خلال فترة الدراسة (17-28 يوليو 1999م) و أخذ المعلومات منهم باستخدام استمارة خاصة.
بلغ عدد عينة الدراسة 201 مسنا ، منهم 106 ذكور (53 %) و 95 إناث (47 %)، و قد كان 80 % منهم من فئة صغار–المسنين (56-75 سنة)، كما كان معظمهم من الأميين (77.6 %).
واحد و ثمانون في المائة منهم كانوا يسكنون مع أولادهم (في وجود شريك حياتهم أو عدمه).
انتشار بعض الأمراض لدى المسنين كان عاليا، فمرض السكري بلغ نسبة 36.3 %، و مرض ارتفاع ضغط الدم بلغ 39.3 %، و أمراض القلب و الشرايين 15.4 %.
كما و جدنا أيضا أن 58.2 % منهم يعانون من مشاكل في المفاصل و 79.1 % من مشاكل في النظر، و 39.8 % من مشاكل في السمع.
Abstract EN
This cross-sectional study is aimed at describing some demographic, health and social characteristics of elderly attending health centers in Bahrain.
Of the 22 health center in Bahrain 4 were randomly selected for conducting the study.
All the elderly attending the selected health centers during the study period (17-28 July 1999) were interviewed by the study group member.
Total of 201 elderly were included in this study with 106 (53 %) males and 95 (47 %) females.
80 % of them were young-old (65-75 years) and most of them were illiterate (77.6 %).
81.1 % were living with their children (with or without the spouse).
The prevalence of health problem among elderly was high with 36.3 % for Diabetes mellitus, 39.3 % for Hypertension and 15.4 % for cardiovascular diseases.
58.2 % had joints problem, 79.1 % had visual problems and 39.8 % had hearing problems.
