The article begins with a brief biography of Yousef Sarkis, and a brief historical background of the book.

It describes the book’s sections and names the sources used by the author in compiling its list of Arabic works published between the invention of printing and 1919.

This list includes all works: which appeared in Arabic in the Arab World; which were published in Arabic in the West about the Islamic World; and which were translated into Arabic from Western Literature.

It concludes with presenting possible uses of this classic book to researchers.
