A study of the attitudes of some agricultural specialists about the importance of the scientific research and its applications in Saudi Arabia

Abstract EN

This study was conducted on personnel working in two agricultural organizations; the College of Agriculture at King Saud University and the Ministry of Agriculture and Water in Riyadh; to determine the attitudes of these personnel about the importance of scientific research and its application.

The study also aims at determining the relationship between some of these personnel's socio-economic characteristics and their attitudes towards scientific research.

The size of the sample was 201 which includes 115 personnel from College of Agriculture representing staff members and their assistants from all the different departments.

The rest of the sample (86 individuals) were randomly selected from the different departments of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water in Riyadh.

Data were gathered by using a refereed questionnaire.

Findings indicate different kinds of relationships and various negative and positive correlations between the individual's attitudes towards the seven topics of research and the independent variables, age, number of children, education, field experience, training period, work place, and income.

In general, the subjects in both organizations in the present study reflect positive attitudes towards scientific research and its agricultural applications.

They also agree on the great importance of providing the results of agricultural research and diffusion them to make them available for application and utilisation.
