تعتمد مقاومة المعادن الثقیلة على كفاءة النوع المیكروبي من جھة و على أنواع المعادن و تراكیز تلك المعادن في البیئة من جھة أخرى، و یمكن اعتبار بكتریا Pseudomonas aeruginosa المثال الأفضل لمقاومة المعادن في البیئة، حیث أن ھذه البكتریا تمتلك قدرة فریدة على مقاومة عدد كبیر من المعادن بما تمتلكه من آلیات قادرة بواسطتها من استهلاك تلك المعادن أو تجمیعھا بشكل غیر مؤذي لھا أو عن طریق أنتاج إنزيمات خاصة تقاوم بھا تلك المعادن .
بینت ھذه الدراسة قدرة تلك البكتریا على مقاومة تراكیز مختلفة من المعادن التالیة : (HgCl,MgSo4,Zn2O3, MgCO3, Na2SO4, C10H20O,EDTA, NiSO4, CuCl2, CdCl2).
كما أظهرت الدراسة أن هناك علاقة بین وجود تلك المعادن و إنتاج البكتریا للصبغات حیث لاحظت الدراسة أن تلك البكتریا تغیر من قابلیاتها الفسلجیة في إنتاجھا للصبغات بوجود المعادن الثقیلة في البیئة التي تعیش فیھا .

The prefect example for microorganisms which resist heavy metals is Pseudomonas aeruginosa, it has a good ability to resist and accumulate different metal ions, This article studied the resistance ability of P.
aeruginosa against different concentrations of the following metals compounds : (HgCl, MgSo4, Zn2O3, MgCO3, Na2SO4, C10H20O, EDTA, NiSO4, CuCl2 and CdCl2), and describing the role of these metals to influence the production of bacterial pigments .
