Abstract EN

This study explores the contributions of al-Awtabi (fifth A.H./eleventh A.D), to the field of communication speech disorders in general, and fluency disorders in particular, through an exhaustive reading in his book entitled Al-Ibanah Fi Alughah.

The study consists of two main parts: the first part concentrates on speech disorders terms and notions.

The second part, is devoted to verify terms and notions pertaining to fluency disorders.

Besides, the study reviews related literature, and sheds light on the significance of the book itself and the conager contributions of the auther.

The study concludes that al-Awtabi’s concern about speech disorders is due to the attitude of conserving classical Arabic model from distortion, which goes in harmony with other ancient Arab linguists attitude.

Al-Awtabi’s effort, represents an early awareness of vital principles adapted by contemporary linguistic methods.

Furthermore, terms of fluency disorders, as a result, such as Ruttah(=cluteering), La’thamah(=stuttering)...etc., are of benefits to modern Arabic Dictionaries and studies to cope with developments that occur in contemporary Linguistics.
