This article investigates the most important characteristics of some contemporary approaches to temporal reference in Arabic.

We mainly focus on the analyses carried out by some Arab linguists within the descriptive perspective.

The advocators of this trend tried to criticize Arabic grammar in an attempt to advance important renovations.

The works under focus in this study are those of Mehdi Makhzoumi, Tammam Hassan, and Ibrahim Es-Samra'i.

These figures advanced new conceptions capable of accounting for the Arabic data in an "innovative" way.

What are the characteristics of these "new" approaches? What are the proposed solutions to account for the intricacies of the Arabic temporal system? To what extent have the aforementioned linguists succeeded in their enterprise?
