Abstract EN

Critical theory might seem to be commonly objective and global.

Unlike this assumption, the present study aims to show that critical theory grows and continues to be necessary within the boundaries of a certain culture, space and language.

To confirm this inherent relation, the currentstudy considers that the Arab critical discourse, as conditioned by its relation with the European “other” and its theses of western criticism generally seen as universal cultural studies, has been remarked by the following distinctive features: • Ambiguity and duplication • Persistent reference to heritage • Adjustment These ideas will be dealt with and explored in the light of prominent studies in the field analyzing the reality of Arabic criticism.

This is intended for the purpose of seeking solutions conducive to respecting the specificities of the Arab reality, ambition, and future visions away from submission or affiliation.

The study, however, remains sensitive to the fact that knowledge-based progress is a determined activity that should not be deterred as peculiar to one specific context rather than another.

The study also recognizes that knowledge of the “other” paves the way for dialogue and self-enrichment.

Yet, as held by Taghour, “I am prepared to open all my windows for all sorts of wind provided that these do not uproot me from my place.
