Left ventricular echocardiographic changes in chronic anemia

The present study is undertaken to evaluate left ventricular size & function using echocardiography in patients with chronic anemia.

Thirty patients with chronic anemia were studied prospectively.

Thirty matched healthy control subjects with normal hemoglobin level were also taken.

Both groups were examined by echocardiography.

The patients with chronic anemia show a significantly increased stroke volume, fractional shortening & LV mass.
