Abstract EN

This paper presents a mathematical model for a double-glazed hot box type solar cooker with one vessel on the base of the cooker and other vessel having central cylindrical cavity is kept on some supports (lugs).

The above model considers heat balance equations of various elements of the cooker such as interior air, absorber plate, vessel cover, double glass glazing, side plate, air inside the vessel, vessel and contents of vessel.

The differential equations thus obtained are solved using a computer program written in mat lab to obtain temperatures of various components of the cooker with time in turn evaluates the various modes of heat transfer.

It is observed that the central cylindrical cavity increases the effective area of heat transfer to the thermic fluid and hence reduces the time in achieving maximum temperature.

The hot air circulates through the central cylindrical cavity of the vessel reducing the heat transfer path length considerably.
