Abstract EN

This work deals with the possibility of the reducing energy consumption in building by blocking or eliminating the effect of direct solar radiation in summer which the cooling demand is dominate in Iraq (Lat.

29° N - 36° N).

It is especially important to minimize the effect of solar radiation incident upon the roof surface. In this study built a system which is spray water upon the external roof surface.

It is consist of network piping, control valves, spray nozzles, thermocouples sensor and digital temperature indicators.

Baghdad (lat.33 °N), which is considered a typical place with extreme climate, is chosen, in this study.

The study has been done in order to minimize the cooling load in living space by using water spray roof system (WSRS). The results showed good indication to use this method in hot arid regions.

We found that the energy transmission through the roof surface was about 40 %.

It also had shown that when using water spray the roof of a building the surface temperature of the roof decreases from 51°Cto23.5°C.
