Abstract EN

It is hypothesized that all the staff members of the universities know how to use a computer.

In order to investigate this hypothesis, a questionnaire survey on basic computing skills and Ms word was distributed to the academic staff.

The total number of respondents was 161.

The questionnaire survey was divided into two parts, the first part centers on basic computing and the second one on Ms word.

It was distributed to one hundred sixty one academic staff who were randomly selected and who have been working for many years in various Departments at five governmental and private universities.

The positive response the academic staff performed on part one and part two is one thousand three hundred out of four thousand eight hundred, that is (27 %) whereas the negative response is three thousand five hundred, that is (73 %).

The findings indicate that the academic staffs are not aware of the basic computing as well as the Ms word.

Accordingly, the researcher strongly recommends that all Yemeni Universities must have computer centers on their campuses through which they can assist their academic staff to their computer technology and information knowledge systems which are basically educational requirements for all the university academic staff in the 21st century.
