Contributing factors to drugs non-compliance among schizophrenic patients

Abstract EN

Objective : The study aims to identify the factors of drug non-compliance among schizophrenic patient.

Methodology : A descriptive study was carried out on (50) hospitalized schizophrenic patient at Ibn Al- Rushed Psychiatric Hospital ; those who had more than one admission because of their relapse during the period between 2nd - January 2005 to 5th-June 2005.

The data was collected through interviewing the patients and their family.

The questionnaire was designed for the purpose of the study and was consisted factors which leading to non-complain of schizophrenic patients to their prescribed treatment.

And contain (15) item ; describe the economic factors, social factors and factors related to the patient, the rated score of it was Yes or No.

Results : The results of the study revealed that the family play and had important roles in the non- compliance also the insufficiency of the drugs and high cost of it in the private pharmacy.

Recommendations : The researcher recommended the importance of education to the patient and their family through the educational program regarding the benefits of treatment to prevent relapse, and regular meeting with them.
