Abstract EN

The present study aims to explore the image of the martyr in the poetry of Mahmoud Darwish.

The study covers the following issues: - The meaning of martyrdom and its value in Darwish's poetry.

- The image of the martyr in Darwish's poetry.

The parper arsues that Darwish has paid great attention to the martyr image.

He has projected the virtues of martyrdom and its role in stirring resistance and revolution for independence and the construction of the self on Palestinian land.

The poet has vividly employed parts of that image like body, blood, and injury to be symbols of fertility, life, resurrection, and continuation of resistance.

Old mythology too was made use of particularly Jesus Christ, the Cross the Phoenix, and Osiris.
