Abstract AR
Abstract EN
In this work, a study of drivers’ characteristics and behavior as important elements in the Highway system in Mosul was conducted.
A questionnaire was designed to tap the following areas: driver education, experience, exposure (km driven and time), and accident experience.
Three hundred individuals between 18-65 years of age were selected for the test program.
Such driver individuals included male and female with and without wearing the head cover usually used by the people in the country, with and without wearing spectacles and with different education levels.
The drivers were subjected to such measures as field of vision (peripheral vision in static visual acuity condition and lateral vision field in both vertical and horizontal meridians of the visual field), and reaction time.
The test results were analyzed and related to driver performance and accident background.
It was concluded that the specific types of spectacles and the head covers studied for both male and female drivers had an effect on the field of vision, while the reaction time was within the safe requirements limit.
The variation in traffic education as reflected by understanding the traffic signs between the old and young age drivers was great.
