Abstract EN

This study aimed at exploring the quantity of members' research productivity, their motivation to read in English , and the effect of this motivation on research productivity.

The data were collected from a sample of 40 faculty members in the College of Education at Kuwait University through a research tool, consisting of parts: (a) quantifying the research productivity, and (b) an instrument to measure the motivation to read in English as a foreign language.

Using the appropriate statistical techniques, the study arrived at various results.

The results showed that female faculty members did not differ in research productivity from their male counterparts; however, the faculty members" of medium experience differed in research productivity than those of lower experience.

Overall motivation and internal motivation in particular, were was generally affected by gender, but experience did not account for any differences in this motivation.

The regression analysis of motivation on research productivity did not show statistically significant effects.

These results were discussed in light of their meaningfulness.

The study concluded with relevant recommendations, hamely, improving reading motivation in general and in foreign languages in particular, establishing micro specialized libraries in each department, and conducting further comprehensive research studies.
