Abstract EN

TThe aim of this research paper is to scrutinize the traditional songs of women in Jordan by reviewing their themes, functions, and structures poetically, melodically, and rhythmically (as well as the way they are acted out), so as to spot out their main artistic features.

The study presents the essential components of women ׳s songs.

These include: word, melody, rhythm, and performance (in solo or in choir; with instrument or without instrument; with dancing or without dancing).

The discussion lists the most popular musical instruments associated with the songs of women.

It also highlights major themes in women songs such as weddings, children, work, Hajj, lamentations, to mention only a few.

The study also surveys the most important functions of women songs, including social, psychological, political, religious, educational functions.

The most famous forms (frames) of women songs found among Bedwins include Alhgeni and Shroogi, whereas among villagers we find Aldalona, Zarifatool, Alajafra, Altaraweed, etc.

This research paper also sets itself the goal to demonstrates the artistic characteristics of women songs.

Most notably are vernacularism, dominance of melody, and sincerity of passion.

The researcher concludes with the major findings and recommendations for future research in this same area.
