Abstract EN

Proton-transfer compounds 4 and 5 of saccharin and nitrogen-containing aromatic derivatives were synthesized through mixing equimolar amounts of starting materials in ethanol.

The self-assembly of 4 and 5 was investigated and illustrated in terms of crystal engineering and supramolecular chemistry.

Both compounds contain cationic and anionic fragments interacting through hydrogen bonding patterns to produce ionic supramolecular heterosynthon.

Compound4 is monoclinic, space group P2(1) /c with unit cell dimensions a = 7.1068(4) Å, b = 13.4537(7) Å, c = 12.1912(7) Å, α = 90o, β = 93.6880(10)o, γ = 90o; while Compound 5 is orthorhombic, space group Pbca with unit cell dimensions a = 13.8743(10) Å, b = 12.4348(9) Å, c = 14.4155(10) Å, α = 90˚, β = 90o, γ = 90˚.
