Abstract EN

Background / Aim : The exquisite clarity with which CT delineates retroperitoneal entails makes it superior to ultrasonography for election of pancreatic abnormalities.

CT has also high accuracy in the diagnosis of other intra-abdominal abnormalities with signs and symptoms that mimic pancreatic disease.

The objective of our study was to evaluate the role of computed tomography (CT) in the diagnosis of pancreatic diseases.

Patients &Methods : This study was carried out onl8 patients (10 females & 8 males) with afferent pancreatic lesions.

All patients were subjected to full history taking clinical examination and afferent imaging studies including plain-ray of the abdomen for 6 patients, barium meal study for 2 patients, abdo mi no-pelvis titrasonography and abdominal CT scanning for all patients.

Results: Pancreatic octal adenocarcinoma was erected in 8 patients with the mass arising in the head of the pancreas in5 patients, in the and boy in 2 patients and in the tail of the pancreas in one patient.

Obstructive jaundice with dilatation of the common bile and the intrahepatic biliary radicals was erected in 2 patients In 2 patients, the mass was sense on pre-contrast images and was erected after intravenous contrast administration Our study included 4 patients with acute pancreatitis, 3 patients had grade C severity index on CT (score 2) and one patient had grade E severity index (score 4).

Pleural effusion was erected in 3 patients and gall bladder stones were elected in 2 patient's withactle pancreatitis.

Pseudo-pancreatic cysts were diagnosed in 4 patients, one case slowed curvilinear calcification on plain X-ray.

In this study mucinous cyst adenocarcinoma was diagnosed in2 patient s, one patient showed multiple hepatic focal lesions.

Conclusion : From this study, CT was found to have an important reliable and non-invasive role in the diagnosis and follow up of acute pancreatitis with the evaluation of its complications.

CT an important role in the diagnosis and staging of pancreatic carcinoma and its management.
