لقد أوضحت بعض الدراسات أن السموم الناتجة عن البكتريا العنقودية ربما تكون سببا في حدوث مرض الرثيان المفصلي.
و لذلك كان الهدف من هذه الدراسة هو إيجاد معدل حاملي البكتيريا العنقودية بالفم في 27 مريض بالرثيان المفصلي بالمقارنة بخمسة و عشرين من الأصحاء كمجموعة ضابطة.
وقد تم عمل فحص إكلينيكي و معملي شامل لهؤلاء المرضى و الأصحاء مع أخذ مسحة أنفية أمامية و مسحة من الفم لعزل البكتيريا العنقودية.
وقد تبين وجود بكتيريا عنقودية في 96.3 % من مرضى الرثيان المفصلي بالفم، بينما وجدت في 88 % من الأصحاء.
كما وجد أن 53.8 % من المرضى حاملي للبكتيريا العنقودية الذهبية، بينما وجدت في 36.4 % من الأصحاء.
وقد اتضح أن معدل تواجد البكتيريا العنقودية الذهبية في مسحة الفم لمرضى الرثيان المفصلي أكثر شيوعا منهما في الأصحاء و ربما يكون هذا سببا في التهاب المفاصل لهؤلاء المرضى.
Abstract EN
Objective : to determine the prevalence of oral staphylococcal carriage in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients compared with healthy controls.
Methodology : the study was performed on 27 RA patients and 25 healthy volunteers.
Clinical and laboratory data of RA activity were studied.
Tongue and anterior nasal swabs were obtained for culture on blood agar.
Results : isolates of Staphylococci were identified and collected from the oral cavity of 96.3 % of RA patients, 53.8 % of whom carried staphylococcus aurous.
The carriage rate of staphylococcus aurous was significantly higher in RA patients than in healthy controls (p < 0.05).
Conclusions : the oral carriage of staphylococcus aurous was common in RA patients, which might be the source of septic arthritis in such patients.
