In this study combinations of four instant thin layer chromatographic systems, namely What man / saline (0.9% NaCl) and what man /acetone (system-1), Silica gel /saline (0.9% NaCl) and silica gel/acetone (system-2), Silica gel/saline (0.9% NaCl) and what man /acetone (system-3) and What man /saline (0.9% NaCl) and silica gel/acetone (system-4) have been investigated for radiochemical purity determination of dynamic renal imaging agent 99rnTc-DTPA (diethylinetriamine penta-acetic acid).
On the average, the percentage of radiochemical purity of 99rnTc-DTPA (i.e.
the fraction of 99m Tc bound to DTP A) was 99.34% (system-1), 90.93% (system-2), 97.93% (system-3) and 92.93% (system-4).
All these systems have shown high sensitivity for radiochemical purity analysis of 99mTc-DTPA as the levels obtained exceed the limits recommended for this radiopharmaceutical by the United States Pharmacopeia (90%).
However, system-1 and system-3 are most sensitive as they give radiochemical purity level far exceeds the level recommended by the manufacturer which amounts to 95% and thus could be used as an alternative to the ITLC system
