Tactile defensiveness-a case report

Abstract EN

Tactile defensiveness is the tendency to react negatively and emotionally to touch sensations.

It is a subtle yet serious neural disorder.

A case is herewith reported presenting with peripheral as well as central symptoms of tactile defensiveness.

The assessment was primarily based on interview, and observation of behavior.

Intervention was effective using the threefold approach of explanation of nature of dysfunction, modification of environment and direct therapy.

Neurophysiological basis for the dysfunction is also discussed based on a historical perspective.
