Abstract EN

Background : Atopic dermatitis is a skin condition that follows a chronic relapsing course and is predisposed to by loss-of-function mutations of FLG gene in several Caucasian cohorts.

Aim : This work was carried out to study if R501X and 2282del4 polymorphisms of FLG gene contribute towards susceptibility to atopic dermatitis in Egyptian patients.

Methods : A cohort of 99 Egyptian atopic dermatitis patients and 75 age and sex matched healthy control subjects were evaluated for R501X and 2281del4 null alleles.

Results : Genotyping of R501X and 2282del4 polymorphisms in AD patients and controls showed similar frequency of risk alleles of 0%.

Conclusions : The present findings suggest that risk alleles of R501X and 2282del4 in Alexandria as an Example of Egyptian atopic dermatitis patients can’t be correlated to disease occurrence
