The effect of serrapeptase and ibuprofen on postsurgical sequelae after odontectomy of impacted lower third molar

Objective : The efficacy of serrapeptase for management of postsurgical sequelae was investigated through a randomized, double-blind comparative study.

Materials and Methods : Twenty patients who presented with impacted lower third molar requiring removal participated in the study.

Patients were randomly divided into two equal groups.

The first group received ibuprofen 400 mg tablets t.

s, while the second group received serrapeptase 10 mg tablets t.

Results : Results indicated that no significant differences in measurements of oedema, interincisal distances and pain between the two groups.

Conclusion : Serrapeptase enzyme can be used for management of post-operative sequelae after third molar surgical extraction.

It can reduce edema, trismus and pain at the same level as obtained from using ibuprofen.
