Abstract AR
Abstract EN
Objective : The aim of the study is to evaluate validity of using P-tricalcium phosphate in reconstruction of maxillofacial bony defect.
Material and Methods : The sixteen patients under investigation were classified into two groups according to the use of P-TCP as a grafting material.
Group I included eight patients without using P-TCP and group II involved eight patients in which the bony defects filled with P-TCP.
Results : Upon comparing both groups under investigation, a non significant difference was noted at the 1st month, while a significant difference was calculated at the 3rd and 6th months.
Conclusion : Beta-tricalcium phosphate is a satisfactory conductive bone grafting material that can be applied to fill bone defects.
The slow resorption (determined by the underlying individual physiology) and simultaneous formation of new bone facilitate bone reconstruction.
