Abstract EN

The cities of the Gaza Strip have witnessed extensive urban revolution in the old periods (Canaanite, Hellenistic, Romanian) to reach the peak of its urban glory in Mamluk and Ottoman periods.

Urban areas have experiences a major deterioration during Israeli occupation (1967-1994).

During the Intifada (1987-1994) against the occupation, the urban situation reached the worst physical deterioration that ended with the arrival of the Palestinian Authority in 1994.

These events has resulted in high-impact changes in physical features.

In addition, the rapid population growth required large-scale housing projects to accommodate such an increase, where urban values of those projects have varied between positive and negative assessments.

Accordingly, this research aims to provide a theoretical study to identify standards to provide a mental positive image for successful urban planning of housing projects.

Also, the study provides an analysis of the values of planning process for the housing project of Tel al-Hawa as a prototype model for housing projects in the Gaza Strip.

It is aimed to analyze this project to take advantage of the positives and avoid negatives when planning future housing projects and, finally, to find out the characters of urban model, which can have a memorable mental image.

The research problem is in the following question : "Have the housing projects in the Gaza Strip provided a model of urban planning with a recognized character that can leave a mental image of a strong impression ? And then how we can find ways and strategies to achieve this.

The research adopts a scientific approach to reach appropriate solutions to the problem of the research through theoretical and field studies that have been applied.

Finally, the research provides a set of results and recommendations that will contribute to provide a model of urban planning that leaves a conscious memorable mental image.

Also, the research recommends that there is a need for an increase in public awareness regarding urban issues and stimulate their attitude towards improving their urban built environment.
