Abstract EN

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are widely spread in the environment.

PAHs types are known as one of most harmful organic pollutants to their mutagenic and carcinogenic properties Incomplete burning of carbon containing materials wood, charcoal and tobacco produced high levels of most PAHs in the environment Man is exposed to PAHs induced through eating drinking and smoking.

The highest exposures are smokers and people who live or work with smokers.

The present study improved a simple method has been adapted for determination of 10 PAHs compounds in human serum of some smokers and nonsmokers.

The results indicated tha PAH£ were detected in different levels in smoker serum, the highest level was Pyrene, Naphthalene and Fluorene which ranged "between (0 88 to 134.23), (0.48 to 93.1) and (0.05 to 22.5) ppm respectively The moderate levels with Carbazole and Phenanthrene were ranged "between" (0.05 to 5.69) and (0.07 to 4.93) ppm respectively.

The lowest levels with Benz (a) pyrene, l^-Benzanthracene and Benz (e acephenanthrylene were ranged between (0.4 to 1.3), (0 11 to U./4) and (0.14) ppm respectively.

While, both Acenaphthalene and Fluoranthene were not detected.

In nonsmokers serum small leves were detected from Pyrene, Phenanthrene, Naphthalene Carbazole and Fluorene were ranged "between" (1.9 to 2.89), (0.1 to 0 42), (0.16 to 0.32), (0.02 to 0.11) and (0.08) ppm respectively.

While Acenaphthalene, Fluoranthene, 1, 2-Benzanthracene Benz (e) acephenanthrylene and Benzo (a) pyrene were not detected.
