Abstract EN

AL-Aghani for Abu Faraj Al-Asfahani is a compilation which was interested in historiography and documentation of Arabic songs during pre-Islamic period until the middle of the forth century of Al- Hijra.

So, Al- Aghani is considered as one of the most important resources of Arab Islamic heritage which is specialized in literature, Arab musical history and Arab musical and cultural life.

It dealt with Arabic music from its beginnings and followed its developmental stages until Al- Abbasi period.

It explained its effect on the forms of other music and songs like Persian and Pezantinian and how it was affected by them.

It collected and explained the melodies and harmonies of a very numerous songs which were known in that period.

And by criticism and analysis it dealt with the fanaticism of some people for the old singing, enthusiasm of others for renewal and intermediacy of others between these two groups, using this for predicting the future of the Arabic music and singing under the development of this age.

So, the researcher tries through this study to induct the features of the Arabic music and singing by studying the rhythms and melodies “Al- Ajnass” of Al-Aswat (songs) which were considered by Al- Asfahani as the basis which the Arabic singing was built on.

All of them are mentioned in Al-Asfahani’s compilation, which are: - The hundred chosen “Aswat”.

- Al- Wathiqi chosen “Aswat”.

- Al-”Aswat which had the ten melodies”.

- The three chosen “Armal”.

- Ma’bad “Aswat”.

- Ibn Sorayj’s seven songs.

- Ma’bad’s “Aswat” which were known by their nicknames.

- “Yunis Al-Katib’s “Zayanib”.
